Turkish culture

3 things you need to know about Turkey:

  1. Turkey is in the middle of Europe and Asia and has diverse cultural values accordingly.
  2. The capital is Ankara but Istanbul is the biggest city.
  3. Istanbul is partly in Europe and partly in Asia.

A must see in Turkey is: the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.

The biggest difference between Canada and Turkey: Things are more organized in Canada. In Turkey no one would line up for the bus, they would just push each other.

In Turkey, never ever: Offer pork as food. Most Turkish people are Muslims are therefore not allowed to eat it.

A wrong stereotype about Turkey/Turkish people is: That we are Arabic.

Turkish people love: Their country!

Turkish people hate: Injustice.

What I like most about Turkey is: That friendships there are very intense and last forever.

What I dislike most about Turkey is: The high level of criminal activity.

Here in Canada I miss most: My home, my friends and my family!

Turkish cooking for beginners: Turkish coffee

Ingredients:

-1 cup of cold water -1 Tbsp. of extra finely ground coffee -sugar

Instructions:

Bring the water, coffee and sugar to a boil in an “ibrik” (a small coffee pot). Then add coffee powder and allow the mixture to come to a boil again. When the coffee forms, remove from heat. Then reheat the pot, allowing the coffee to form a second time. Once this occurs, remove from heat again. Pour the coffee into a cup and allow it to sit for a few minutes until the grounds have settled.
